About Rob

Rob Baker is the tracker and artist behind TrackWorks.

The seeds were planted early: when Rob was young, his grandfather took him on expeditions where in observing birds Rob had his first experience of having an involved relationship with nature, becoming particularly fascinated with hawks and other birds of prey.

This initial interest eventually blossomed into a passion and a career. Rob began his study of tracking at The Tracker School with Tom Brown Jr., the reclusive New Jersey tracker and author whose teachings are borne out of Apache tradition. Rob went on to study with a number of other teachers and holds several certificates from tracking, wilderness, and conservation authorities across North America, including the prestigious Level 3 Track and Sign Certificate from CyberTracker—the gold standard in tracking certification. In all, Rob has amassed 20 years of tracking experience.

TrackWorks pieces are an expression of the exacting standards and uncompromising passion that have defined Rob’s life, and their journey from track in the ground to piece of art could not have been envisioned, realized, and perfected without Rob’s unique abilities.

Rob started out his artistic career as a drummer, founding the Canadian band Red Rider. For ten years, Rob laid down the backbeat to Red Rider’s success, as the band toured arenas in Canada and the U.S., receiving numerous awards for their Gold and Platinum records.

Following music, Rob’s artistic soul found its expression in cooking. As a professional chef, Rob served haute cuisine to diplomats, executive clienteles and other VIPs and connoisseurs.

Born in Toronto, Rob now calls Montreal his home and bases his operations out of this historic city. In addition to his art, Rob currently dedicates a portion of his time to working with students at Montreal’s Vanier College, leading students on camping and tracking expeditions and teaching them wilderness camping and outdoor survival skills.
